Oliver and Nicolas Jutzi, founders of Vandy Studio, asked me to jump on this project with RTS, the swiss public broadcasting organisation, to design and animate the title sequence for an upcoming TV show.

The show is an in-depth interview with leading Swiss figures. Each episode is a unique dive into the guest’s area of expertise. Politics, economy, society, sport, culture, all subjects are approached throughout those 1 hour conversations with journalist Philippe Revaz.

As I jumped in during production I first got briefed on what the client wanted but also on what had been already done this far. Multiple deliveries were created to fit the background screens present on set. And based on that, I designed a series of styleframes to show the client how those background graphics would be adapted for a title sequence.

Once the design board was approved I animated the sequence in the style and tone discussed with Oliver, Nicolas and RTS creative director Franck Jacquemettaz. They wanted something quick, dynamic and showcasing iconic Swiss symbols that convey success and modernism.

And what better way to wrap everything up with a beautifuly designed swiss typeface!

The Antarctica font was created by NewGlyph, a studio specialized in type design based in Lausanne. This font uses the variable font technology which means that the entire range of styles (weights, widths, italics) have been designed in one unique file giving the freedom to explore design like never before and fit to every possible need. It is made to anticipate the use of typography in the never ending software evolution but in our case it offers the possibility to smoothly animate in between styles.

What a treat for a type nerd and motion addict like myself!
