Typography
The project aimed to develop a distinctive personal visual identity for author Christophe Barraud, reflecting his literary universe across polar thrillers, fantasy, and socially rooted science fiction. The scope included the creation of a logo design, the selection of a versatile typography for communication materials, and the definition of a coherent, evocative colour palette. The identity needed to function across diverse applications such as social media, websites, flyers, bookmarks, and event roll-ups, establishing a strong yet flexible foundation for the author’s communication strategy.
Challenge
The main challenge was to capture the duality of Christophe Barraud’s work: raw and brutal, yet accessible, familiar and sometimes even quirky. His stories explore dark, tortured themes but remain grounded and popular, balancing seriousness with a touch of irony. The visual identity had to embody this complexity.
Another critical question was the role of the logo: should it serve as the central tool of the author’s personal branding, or act as a more discreet signature to support the release of specific books and literary events? The solution needed to address both possibilities while maintaining visual coherence.
Solution
The final design combined a bold, adaptable logo with a carefully chosen typographic pairing and a sophisticated colour palette. Carmine Red conveys drama and intensity, contrasted by Charcoal Black and Turquoise green for a striking and modern accent. Verdigris adds a cold, almost metallic note evoking the science fiction dimension, while off-white brings balance and clarity. Together, these elements creates a versatile system that can shift between editorial, promotional, and digital contexts. The result is a flexible personal branding identity that positions Christophe Barraud as a recognisable author brand, reinforcing his presence across platforms while staying true to the raw, dark, and imaginative nature of his storytelling.
